Training on 'outcomes' approach for Big Lottery Fund applicants

The Directory of Social Change (DSC) is running a series of courses around England for those who need to master the ‘outcomes’ approach that is required of applicants to the Big Lottery Fund’s ‘open access’ programmes.

The one-day course will be led by Luke FitzHerbert, the founding editor of the DSC’s Guide to the Major Trusts and author of other funding guides. It will cover the new terminology in use by the Big Lottery Fund, details of the new ‘open access’ programmes, the new ‘outline proposal’ approach, and sample application forms for practice drafting.

Delegates will get to undertake an exercise using real research evidence, and there will be a review of the uses of ‘outcomes’ in other applications. To get the most out of the day, delegates will be encouraged to come prepared to draft ‘outcomes’ paragraphs for their own likely applications.

The course will not cover ‘closed’ Big Lottery Fund programmes of the kind inherited from the New Opportunities Fund.

The course will be run in London, Manchester, Crawley, Birmingham, and Leeds, with the first London course taking place on 16 February 2005.

The course costs £130, £175 or £320, depending on whether the delegate comes from a small or large voluntary or community organisation, or a commercial or statutory organisation.
