CharityCheckout.co.uk offers commission free one-off and regular payments

Online charity payment provider Charity Checkout is dropping its fee on all donations made through its platform, including one-off and regular gifts.

The payment provider enables charities to accept credit and debit card donations via their own websites and social media profiles, without the need for a merchant account. It is particularly designed for small and medium-sized charities.

Although Charity Checkout will not charge a fee on donations, every charity that uses the system will have to pay the transaction costs of processing their donations. So, for every £10 given through Charity Checkout, the charity will receive £12.20, with Gift Aid. In addition, charities will have to pay a monthly fee, which will start from £5 per month for small charities.

Charity Checkout was created by social entrepreneur Chester Mojay-Sinclare who graduated from University College London earlier this year.

He distinguished the site from other online giving sites. “Although we are now cheaper”, he claimed, “than, CAF, JustGiving and Virgin Money Giving, we are not competing with them directly as our service is different, we are a payment gateway for a charity’s own website rather than just another fundraising site.”

He added: “We want to start an online revolution, where small and medium charities can access the resources they need to grow and compete with the big names. This is not about software, it’s about fundamentally changing the way smaller charities use the web.”

Charity Checkout is a social enterprise backed by University College London, UCL Business Plc and WooWise Group. It processes all donations and associated Gift Aid on payments made through its system through Paypoint.net and Lloyds TSB Cardnet.

ACEVO is recommending the service to its members. Bernadette Adamic, Head of Corporate Partnerships at ACEVO, explained: “Far too few smaller charities have the tools and resources available to them, to allow them to grow and become self-sufficient. We believe Charity Checkout offers exactly this, by providing a simple and unique service that will empower charities to fundraise for regular donations via their websites and social media profiles.”
