Giving at Christmas 2011 by the numbers
We’ve already brought you details of online fundraising service JustGiving’s analysis of giving to charity over the past 10 Decembers, but as we approach the 12 days of Christmas, here are some more fundraising and giving statistics for you.
£31.88
That’s how much the top ten Christmas gifts this season have the potential to raise for charity, provided they are bought via Give as you Live, the online shopping fundraising service.
Users who use the site to buy items such as the iPad2, UGG Boots, Downton Abbey series 1 & 2, and the Twilight triple boxset could generate £5.99, £3.38, £1.20, and £0.21 respectively for each of these presents. The site has over 1,500 retailers listed, and users can choose to benefit any of 220,000 charities.

Charity collecting tin is most popular fundraising method at Christmas
According to research by charity insurance specialist Ecclesiastical, the traditional collection tin, whether held by a volunteer in the street or placed by a shop till, remains the most popular approach at this time of year with 38% of Britons preferring them.
Sponsoring a friend (13.6%) was a popular method, but only 2.5% of Britons said they would hand money to a face-to-face fundraiser in December.
The festive spirit doesn’t seem to translate into charitable giving, according to the survey: 58% of the population said their charitable giving remained unchanged in December, while 16% donated less.
The survey of 1,000 UK adults was conducted for Ecclesiastical by independent research company OnePoll from 8 to 12 December 2011.
