Variety Club to seek text donations

Children’s charity the Variety Club is to boost its fundraising by integrating text message donations as part of its latest fundraising campaign.
Working with mobile donations service instaGiv, the charity is integrating mobile technology into its latest campaign in two ways. First, it is promoting £3 mobile text message donations, and secondly it is offering an information service by inviting the public to text for information on the campaign and the work of the charity.
Chief Barker of The Variety Club Paul Lawrence said: “We are pleased to be integrating text donation fundraising into our latest campaign in partnership with Procter & Gamble and The Co-operative, especially following the recent Vodafone and O2 announcements that 100% of every text donation will be passed to the charity”.
Supporters can also further boost the value of their donations by accessing a WAP-enabled Gift Aid form and increasing their donation by an additional 28%.
Michael Carlin, managing director of instaGiv, said: “Mobile phones have the ability to reach mass audiences in a way that no other technology has been able to before. This campaign is further evidence that the fundraising and donor interaction opportunities offered by SMS and mobile channels can be easily integrated into marketing campaigns of charities”.
