Nominations for 2010 Queen's Volunteer Award close this month

Nominations for The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, “the MBE for volunteer groups”, close on 30 September 2010.
This national honour was created by the Queen to mark her Golden Jubilee in 2002 and recognises the outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups of volunteers. So far 750 organisations have already received this Award, ranging from volunteers from young people’s groups, rural community organisations to groups working in Black and Minority Ethnic communities.
Nominations can be made by friends, family or members of the public, and successful groups will be announced on 2nd June 2011 (Coronation Day).
The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service Main Award Committee Chair and former broadcast journalist Martyn Lewis CBE said: “Volunteering groups make a huge contribution to people’s lives, often without praise for the incredible job they do. A prestigious National Honour such as The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service can prove invaluable in so many ways to their ongoing success”.
The success rate of applications is good: in 2009, 95 groups from across the UK were selected from the 406 nominated groups.
