Irish Cancer Society maintains fundraising levels

One of Ireland’s largest fundraising charities, the Irish Cancer Society (ICS), has expressed itself content that income for 2009 was similar to 2008, according to its latest annual report.
ICS’s income for 2009 was €16,960,000 and €17,005,000 in 2008. ICS says that the figures are creditable given the continuing recession and pressure on fundraising.
Income for one of ICS’s most high profile fundraising events, Daffodil Day, fell to €3.1 million from €3.2 million while voluntary income dropped to €3.4 million from €4.5 million. Voluntary income includes income from bequests and donations.
ICS’s ‘other activities’ saw an increase to €8.8 million from €8 million. Other activities includes income from fundraising functions and events, lottery grants, collections and profit from charity shops and Christmas card sales.
Shop income increased from €3.2 million to €3.4 million but profit stayed around the same, €0.6 million, following a refurbishment programme.
ICS income includes a figure of €380,000 from a scheme established by the National Lottery to compensate charities running their own lotteries.
Fundraising expenses increased from €2.4 million to €2.9 million.
