PFRA publishes guidance video on street fundraising

The Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) has published a best practice video about street fundraisers for council licensing officers and town centre managers. It is designed to let them know what to expect of fundraisers visiting their areas under the terms of a site management agreement.
The video has been published in a new best practice section on the PFRA website, which also explains the solicitation statement and the ‘three step’ rule.

Nick Henry, PFRA’s head of standards, said: “The Institute of Fundraising’s Code of Practice on Face-to-Face Activity lays the ground rules for best practice but there is a lot that fundraisers have to do that isn’t specified in the code.”
The solicitation statement, or ‘disclosure’ as fundraisers call it, is one example. The Charities Act 2006 requires that fundraisers have to give the solicitation statement, which tells donors how much the fundraising agency is being paid by the charity, when a donor agrees to make a donation.
Nick Henry points out: “The solicitation statement sounds straightforward, but the rules governing it are quite complex and can often be misinterpreted. That’s why we have gone to some length explaining them in the new best practice section.”
PFRA will enhance the best practice pages with further ./guidance over the coming months.
