New CEO and Chair appointed at Resource Alliance
Neelam Makhijani has been appointed chief executive of the Resource Alliance, the international NGO specialising in building the fundraising capacity of not-for-profit organisations worldwide. The organisation’s first female CEO and its first CEO to be appointed from the Global South, Makhijani was appointed at the organisation’s international board meeting on 18 April.
At the same event the board also elected Akwasi Aidoo as its new Chair. The founding executive director of TrustAfrica in Senegal, Aidoo will take up his role in October 2010.
Makhijani has worked for the Resource Alliance for over six years, creating and developing its international education and training programmes and its consulting services. She has been responsible for building partnerships with leading Institutes and business schools to establish high quality, localised learning programmes for fundraisers across the Global South. Since March 2009 she has also held the position of deputy CEO at the RA.
She takes over from Hans Wolters who stepped down from his position earlier this month for ‘personal reasons’.
Jan Krol, co-chair of the Resource Alliance, said: “Neelam’s first-hand knowledge and experience of working with charities in India will provide invaluable insight as she takes the helm of the RA… We have no doubt that her passion will be a great asset to the RA as she drives our mission for professional fundraising development and capacity building within the developing world.”
