A new Chair of Trustees for 360Giving, and a Director of Engagement & Fundraising at Diabetes UK are among recent sector appointments.

Fozia Irfan announced as 360Giving’s new Chair of Trustees

Fozia Irfan OBE, BBC Children in Need’s Director of Children and Young People, is to become 360Giving’s new Chair of Trustees from July 2022. Irfan will be taking over from Founder Fran Perrin OBE, who announced earlier this year that she is stepping down from the Board this summer, but will continue to support the organisation as a champion, ambassador and Founder after. Prior to joining BBC Children in Need, Irfan was Chief Executive of the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation. In addition to her professional experience, she has held a number of voluntary, advisory roles on grantmaking boards. She has been a Trustee of the Association of Charitable Foundations (ACF) and established the national Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Coalition of foundations which supports the implementation of more effective and equitable grantmaking strategies. 

James Beeby joins Diabetes UK as Director of Engagement & Fundraising

Diabetes UK has welcomed James Beeby as Director of Engagement and Fundraising. Leading a 130-strong department of marketing, communications, business support, digital and fundraising professionals, Beeby will be part of the charity’s executive team of directors. With 19 years’ experience in the sector, he joins from Terrence Higgins Trust, where he led on organisational strategy development and reinvigorating the fundraising programme. Before that, he worked at Prostate Cancer UK, as well as in corporate fundraising roles at the Stroke Association, Leonard Cheshire and The Children’s Society. He takes over in the Diabetes UK role from Alastair Graham, who has served as Interim Director of Engagement & Fundraising following the departure of Kath Abrahams in January 2022.

Tanya Curry takes on Interim CEO role at Impetus to cover maternity leave

Eleanor Harrison, CEO of youth charity Impetus, has begun her year-long maternity leave with Tanya Curry taking over the reins as Interim CEO. Curry has a wealth of experience in senior positions in the charity sector, most recently as Interim CEO at the Ramblers, which she joined in February 2020 following the resignation of previous Chief Executive, Van Griffiths. 

Wendy Becker to join BHF as next Chair of Trustees

BHF has announced the next Chair of its Board of Trustees, who will start in the role in October 2022. Wendy Becker will succeed Dr Doug Gurr, the current Director of the National History Museum, who is stepping down after seven years as Chair. Becker has been Chairperson at Logitech since 2019 and a Non-Executive Director since 2017. Prior to joining Logitech, she was the Chief Executive Officer at Jack Wills Limited, Chief Marketing Officer at the Vodafone Group and has held positions at TalkTalk, McKinsey and Procter and Gamble. Dr Gurr joined the BHF Board in 2015 and is stepping down after serving the maximum number of terms.

Catherine Rustomji elected to Charity Law Association executive committee

Charity law and governance expert Catherine Rustomji has been elected to sit on the Charity Law Association executive committee. As Head of Charities at full service law firm Shakespeare Martineau, her position on the executive committee will see her play a leading role in improving knowledge and awareness of charity law issues, as well as working closely with the Charity Commission to pursue both technical and practical issues facing the sector. Rustomji has more than 20 years’ experience in the sector, advising charities, social enterprises and not for profit organisations and specialising in charity law and governance, not for profit legal structures, trustee training and board development.

Tenovus Cancer Care CEO awarded scholarship to Harvard Business School programme

Tenovus Cancer Care’s Chief Executive, Judi Rhys MBE, has been awarded a tuition scholarship to attend the Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management Executive Education programme at Harvard Business School (HBS). The scholarship, awarded by Social Enterprise Scholarship Committee and made possible by an HBS donor fund, gives selected nonprofit leaders the opportunity to attend a week-long executive course at the faculty. Taking place in July 2022, leaders from around the world will participate in an intensive programme that explores crucial concepts and skills for nonprofit leadership in order to create effective and high performing organisations.
