Multi-search engine VeoSearch launches to UK charities
VeoSearch.com, a Paris-based search engine that donates 50% of its revenues to charities selected by its users, has opened its doors to UK charities.
Like other charitable search engines, it generates revenues from advertisers on its site and from its search engine partners. Unlike other similar sites it has partnered with four search engines, Google, Yahoo, Ask, Exalead. As such it claims to be “the first multi-search engine raising funding for charities.”
The company was founded by Arthur Saint-Père and Guillaume Heintz in October 2007 and operates in France, Belgium and Switzerland.
With the UK launch the site has also introduced online community features which offer tools to the partner charities with which they can communicate with their supporters who use the site to fundraise for them. Individuals can choose to support up to five charities on the site.
VeoSearch.com focuses its work on supporting charities that work in sustainable development, in the areas of social work, environment protection and sustainable economics. Initial UK charity partners include SOS Children’s Villages, Leonard Cheshire Disability, Diabetes UK, Care International UK, and the British Red Cross. European partners include WWF France, Aide at Action, and Afrique Verte.
The company reports that it raised 18,000 euros for charities in its first four months, and is attracting over 300,000 unique visitors per month. Its website is today reporting 31,222 registered users, 16,907,954 searches to date, and a charitable total of £18,849.
Charities receive their income monthly provided the total is at least 100 euros. VeoSearch.com say that charities will need to send them documents to prove their bona fides status before the first payment is released.
The site offers a range of promotional tools to help both charities and individuals promote it, including code to add a VeoSearch search box to a website, a downloadable flyer, code for a banner ad, text for an email signature, and a browser searchbar add-on.
