DSC publishes guide to social entrepreneurship
The Directory of Social Change is this month publishing “Your Chance to Change the World – The No-Fibbing Guide to Social Entrepreneurship” by Craig Dearden-Phillips.
The author is the founder of disability charity Speaking Up and a veteran of several social business start-ups. He set up Speaking Up aged 24 in a small community centre in Cambridge, and built it into an award-winning organisation employing 100 people and working with 4000 people.
The book explains how to set up a new social business from scratch. Like any good business book, it it covers the key elements of people, finance and business planning.
It also includes sections specially aimed at social entrepreneurs such as ‘Finding Funding’, ‘Governance’ and ‘Looking After Number One’, something which Dearden-Phillips suggests social entrepreneurs are often very bad at.
The author acknowledges that he has made mistakes along the way and shares what he has learned. DSC say “it is both inspirational and useful – for it speaks to people’s real situations”.
The book will be launched at the House of Commons on 24 April.
Your Chance to Change the World by Craig-Dearden Phillips, published by the Directory of Social Change, is available price £14.95 from DSC.
