NESTA offers £1 million for groups tackling climate change

Howard Lake | 9 November 2007 | News

The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) is offering £1 million for organisations that can demonstrate new ways to tackle climate change. The Big Green Challenge will run over two years and aims to “encourage new approaches and solutions to climate change”.

The £1 million prize fund is open only to organisations or groups of people. Each group or organisation entering the competition will need to be formally constituted as not-for-profit.

The competition will be open for applications from January to the end of February 2008. Ten shortlisted organisations will then be selected, and they will have a year to put their approach into practice to demonstrate the reduction in CO2 emissions, from October 2008 to October 2009. Finalists will receive up to £20,000 each plus advice.

One overall winner will then be announced. NESTA expect the majority of the prize fund to go to this winner, with the remaining prize money distributed to runners-up at the discretion of the judges.
