Giving NI has announced details of its fifth annual Philanthropy Fortnight from May 8-19th which will include a series of events and discussions aimed at promoting philanthropy in Northern Ireland.
The programme will explore many aspects of philanthropy including the importance of its heritage, legacy fund-raising, the particular role of women and young people in charity and the importance of philanthropy to the arts.
Philanthropy Fortnight is a collaboration between a range of partner organisations including Giving Northern Ireland, Belfast Charitable Society, Arts & Business, the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, NI Environment Link, Will to Give and the Fermanagh Trust.
Sandara Kelso-Robb, Chief Executive of Giving Northern Ireland, said the diversity of the programme and the breadth of organisations involved reflected the need to unlock more philanthropic funding at a time when funding streams were being cut or significantly reduced.
The Philanthropy Fortnight programme will begin with a morning discussion on 9th May on wills led by Meg Abdy, Director of Legacy Foresight, while in the afternoon the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland will announce details of a new social justice grant scheme.
Other events include a discussion on the history of philanthropy in Northern Ireland and the lessons for today and the role of philanthropy in a welfare state.
Giving NI’s role is to promote philanthropy and giving in Northern Ireland, focusing on high net worth individuals and corporates and to build a strong independent voice for giving by working in collaboration, cooperation and partnership with other organisations
