JustGiving to introduce contactless payments app for charities

JustGiving is working on a new contactless payment app for charities, and showcased a prototype at the Institute of Fundraising’s Individual Giving conference yesterday.
“The world’s social platform for giving” has been working on its new TapDonate app with specialist blood cancer charity Bloodwise. Once fully developed, it will enable charities large and small to accept contactless payments by enabling donors to give with a single tap of their debit card.
To use it a charity will download the app to a mobile device such as a phone or tablet, add in its branded content, and then connect with one touch to a PayPal Here card reader. Donations will take just seconds to be handled.

TapDonate trial in early 2017

JustGiving is inviting its charity partners to take part in a trial to help develop the app early in 2017. It will be A/B testing its performance against cash donations in a series of trials. The company will share the results of this with its charity partners.

Jonathan Waddingham, senior product manager from JustGiving, said:

“People are increasingly opting for card payments, rather than carrying cash, and so we want to create an app that will enable supporters to give in the way that suits them. In doing so, JustGiving is creating equal opportunities for charities of all sizes to access new types of giving technology so that we can continue to grow the world of giving.”
