AMA offer telephone Gift Aid conversion service to charities

Howard Lake | 15 June 2005 | News

AMA charity services are encouraging charities to contact supporters for Gift Aid declarations via the telephone.

The Northern Ireland-based contact centre has worked with various charities in order to claim Gift Aid from those eligible, and in turn has reclaimed what it says are “valuable lost funds” on their behalf. AMA argues that making such personal contacts need not be a costly and time consuming experience.

The Institute of Fundraising estimated that in 2003/2004 an additional £900 million could have been raised if all charity contributions were Gift Aided. Charities are aware that they can claim back Gift Aid for all donations made since April 2000. However, AMA recognise that busy fundraising divisions are often under pressure, and they quite simply may not get the opportunity to contact supporters themselves.

AMA’s campaign commenced in mid-May with a large-scale mail shot. Damian Hanna, Charity Services Manager at AMA said: “We can offer a valuable lifeline to time pressed fundraisers. We appreciate charities would like the chance to talk with their supporters and discuss Gift Aid, but this is not always possible.

“Commissioning AMA relieves this pressure and enables charities to benefit from our extensive knowledge of the charity sector. Our operators understand the need for sensitivity in such campaigns.”
