Online payment service PayPal is reducing the variable fees it charges UK charities to handle online donations by up to 59%.

Qualifying charities that previously paid 3.4% plus 20p for receiving a domestic payment will now pay only 1.4% plus 20p. Cross-border payment rates have also fallen.

To benefit from this new rate organisations need to apply and be approved by PayPal. The rate is available only to non-profit organisations that are registered either with the Charity Commission for England and Wales or the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
