Giving Tuesday UK tour gets underway
Giving Tuesday UK, part of the international movement that invites people to give their time, money or voice to charity on the first Tuesday in December each year, will be staging a tour of cities across the UK to spread its message.
The Giving Tuesday UK team hope to encourage local charities, groups and businesses to get behind the campaign and start planning for the day, which this year falls on 2 December.
Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday has been chosen to follow and contrast with the major pre-Christmas shopping days that have been christened Black Friday and Cyber Monday . It asks people to do one simple charitable act on the day in the run up to Christmas.
This is the first year that Giving Tuesday has been promoted in the UK. Already 120 partners have signed up to the campaign. These include RSPCA, Cancer Research UK and RNIB. Founding partner companies include Glamour, Homebase, Argos, Mindshare and Thomson Reuters. UK Fundraising too has supported the campaign in the UK: its editor Howard Lake chaired the launch to UK charities in April.
Last year #GivingTuesday brought together 10,000 partners globally, from tiny community groups to huge multi-national corporations like Google and Microsoft. #GivingTuesday also gained the support of over a hundred well-known individuals including Bill Gates, Kevin Bacon and Ringo Starr.

The campaign in the UK is being led by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and Blackbaud.
John Low, Chief Executive of the Charities Aid Foundation, said:

“In the US we’ve seen some cities really take the campaign up for themselves – Baltimore alone raising millions of dollars – and we hope to inspire the same spirit of competition among cities over here”.
