Google launches daily microdonation mobile app One Today

Howard Lake | 27 August 2013 | News

Google has launched One Today in the USA, a mobile app that encourages people to give $1 a day to charity.

The app features a different charity's project every day. Users can donate with just one click, and then encourage their friends, family and contacts to join them by sharing their donation via social media.

It is currently available on Android devices but only to US users and nonprofits.

Donations are grouped together and are paid for through Google Wallet.

While you can only give a maximum of $1 a day, you can try to increase its value by challenging your friends to match your donation.

Over time, One Today should become better at suggesting projects that match your interests, based on your history of choosing and giving.

A 1.9% handling charge is made on all donations, but otherwise nonprofits do not need to pay to sign up for or benefit from One Today.

Why One Today?

In the app's FAQ, Google explains: "Google has a long-standing commitment to supporting nonprofits and to doing good. One Today makes fundraising easy for nonprofits; it also makes giving simple and fun for users."

How do nonprofits get featured?

To benefit from One Today, nonprofits have to be members of Google for Nonprofits.
