The Wheel to launch daily deal fundraising tool for Irish charities

Irish charity umbrella group, the Wheel, is to launch a new online fundraising initiative called Deal Effect.

Deal Effect, which brings together 34 mostly smaller charities, aims to cash in on the popularity of daily deal websites where consumers get a bargain, companies get the business and the participating charities get 11% of the value of transactions. It is due to launch in June.

“Deal Effect is the modern version of the Christmas card, enabling relatively small but repeat revenues, as well as a way of giving something back to donors without always asking them for money,” Wheel CEO Deirdre Garvey told the Sunday Times.

Ms Garvey says this fundraising initiative is the type of innovation needed when fundraising is under pressure in the current economic climate in Ireland.

The Wheel is a support, resource and representative body for the Irish voluntary sector.
