Microsoft launches new awards scheme for voluntary groups

Microsoft is inviting community groups across the UK to apply for a Microsoft Community Learning Award to help further the provision of ICT skills and training to disadvantaged young people and adults across the UK.
In partnership with national charity Citizens Online Microsoft’s new awards scheme will provide 25 awards of £2000 to UK based community and voluntary groups in 2004.
Microsoft’s Community Learning Awards are aimed at organisations that are concerned with reaching people who are currently excluded from existing IT training and support schemes in their area. The scheme is specifically seeking to bridge elements of digital exclusion through supporting informal, supportive, training projects that introduce ICT to young people and adults in the most appropriate way.

Applications should be received by 9 August 2004. Successful applicants will be invited to the Microsoft Community Learning Awards ceremony in early October.
The awards reflect Microsoft’s new giving initiative, Unlimited Potential, which, says the company, is “a global commitment to help eliminate technology illiteracy supported by a long term investment of more than $1 billion in cash and software over the next five years”.
