Barclays funds Girlguiding UK's new technology programme for girls
The largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women, Girlguiding UK, has joined forces with Barclays to inspire girls about Information, Communication and Technology.
The new activity pack for Guides is called ‘Go For It! Communicate’. With activities ranging from designing robots, creating Web pages and taking photos with digital cameras, the activities are about broadening girls’ horizons and showing them that technology is fun as well as vital.
It is also the first time ever that Girlguiding UK has incorporated an interactive CD Rom into their varied programme of activities for girls.

Jo Hobbs, Youth Development Manager at Girlguiding UK, said: “It is really important to us that our members benefit from any sponsorship initiative and Barclays support has enabled us to produce a much more substantial resource than would have been possible otherwise. It’s been great working with an organisation which fully supports our aims.”
Education is a key theme of Barclays community investment programme and the bank is also very active in its commitment to equality and diversity both within the organisation and the wider community. Alice Wilcock, Barclays Head of Community Affairs said: “We hope that this new activity pack will make a real and lasting difference in engaging Guides in the development of their own skills and careers in a fun and interesting way. Hopefully some will break through the glass-ceilings that can be found for women in business today.”
