New Royal Patron for Shaftesbury Society

Howard Lake | 1 April 2003 | News

Her Royal Highness, the Princess Royal, has become the Royal Patron of the Shaftesbury Society.

“It will be a great encouragement to our service users, carers and all those who support our work,” said the charity’s Chief Executive, Mary Bishop.

The Princess Royal has previously supported Shaftesbury’s work delivering their annual lecture at Harrow school, visiting one of their special schools in Wiltshire and opening a day centre in London. The Princess Royal takes over the role from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, who was Shaftesbury’s patron for 50 years until her death in April 2002.
