Quantifying volunteers' donated time

Howard Lake | 7 March 2003 | News

The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability has reported that its volunteers donated 10,400 hours to working with patients and residents in 2002.

This is equivalent to £88,400 worth of their time. This calculation was based on an estimated hourly rate of £8.50, based on the average local wage paid for skills equivalent to those needed by Royal Hospital volunteers.

The figure appeared in the Royal Hospital’s annual review. The hospital has 150 volunteers.
