First Internet-based charity single

Howard Lake | 13 July 2000 | News

Sinead O’Connor and other musicians have recorded what is claimed to be the first Internet-only single to raise funds for charity. The beneficiary charity is War Child, a popular cause among the music industry. The song is a remake of Bob Marley’s Them Belly Full (But We Hungry).

The song was recorded via the Internet by musicians in several countries. It is reported that you will soon be able to buy the song from War Child using the Magex MP3-download buying system, another indication that charities are moving into digital rights management as an online fundraising opportunity. You can download the track for a £1 donation made from users’ Magex digital wallet.

It will also be available from Yesmate.com for a £1 donation to War Child.
