There are now 529,871 registered .org domains, suggesting that there is a very large number of non-profit and voluntary organisations using the Internet.
The figure has been published by domainstats.com and is part of a series of statistics for domain names registered with InterNIC.
The most popular domain names end in .com, with 5,684,188 .coms registered. Then comes .net with 1,007,963 registered, and then .org at 529,871. This is followed by .edu wih 5,673, and 730 for .gov.
