The Secret Policeman's Ball is back
[img_assist|nid=127|title=Secret Policeman’s Ball 2006|desc=magazine advert|link=none|align=left|width=75|height=100]The Secret Policeman’s Ball, the groundbreaking series of comedy fundraising events run by Amnesty in the 1970s and 1980s, returns this year after a very long break. As a fundraiser (including five years at Amnesty) I’m delighted to see it back. I can recall seeing at the cinema and it’s certainly one of those moments that I look back on as stirring an interest in me in fundraising – and consequently I’ve spent my adult life doing that.
True to form, Amnesty isn’t resting on its laurels – with so many other charity events these days, they can’t – and it is trying to expand its potential audience beyond that of the Royal Albert Hall on 14 October. The event will also be “broadcast live at a venue in your area” too, at Picturehouse cinemas, as well as being broadcast afterwards on Channel 4. The event will also feature ‘dead funny podcasts’ viral films and human rights animations.
Confirmed stars include Alan Davies, Eddie Izzard, Jon Culshaw, Joanna Lumley, Jo Brand, Omid Djalili, and Rhys Ifans.
It’s good to welcome an old fundraising friend back to the world.
