GiveStar announces Tap-on-Phone donations for charities

Fundraising platform GiveStar is inviting charities to trial its new Tap-on-Phone app, which allows fundraisers to take contactless donations with just their smartphones.

The solution removes the need for card readers: donors tap their card to the back of a fundraiser’s phone to make a payment.

To use the Tap-on-Phone technology fundraisers need to download GiveStar’s free app to take contactless donations.

Founded in 2018 by Alexander Coleridge and Tom Montague, GiveStar started with “The Clip”, a contactless and chip & pin device that attaches to the back of a smartphone, and lets fundraisers take donations when paired with the GiveStar app. The company now supports UK charities with an expanded platform that includes Online Giving pages, microsites, ticket sales, livestreaming and QR codes.

GiveStar clients include Cancer Research UK, Christian Aid, GOSH, Macmillan and the NSPCC, as well as corporate partners like Premier Inn and Lidl, which conduct employee fundraising for their charity partners on the GiveStar platform.

Tap-on-Phone

The first live trials of Tap-on-Phone will take place from October this year, with several large charities already signed up to take part, and full access to the technology expected to be available from January 2022. Charities can register their interest to get involved by visiting the GiveStar website.

Currently, Tap-on-Phone is only available on Android.

Alex Coleridge, co-founder at GiveStar, commented:
