HEINEKEN Africa Foundation & WaterAid

HEINEKEN Africa Foundation and WaterAid have renewed their partnership after bringing clean water and good hygiene to 30 million people across Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, and Mozambique, helping communities protect themselves from the spread of infectious diseases like coronavirus.  Last year the Foundation, which has been supporting water and health projects since 2007, donated more than £1 million (€1.2 million) to the international charity to support its emergency response work to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 in vulnerable communities in sub-Saharan Africa. The Foundation has now renewed its commitment to WaterAid by donating a further £1.4 million (€1.6 million) and extending its support to WaterAid’s work in Ethiopia.

Swinton Insurance, Insurance United Against Dementia & Alzheimer’s Society

Swinton Insurance and Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) have teamed up in a partnership that will invite customers buying a car insurance policy online to donate £1 to Alzheimer’s Society. IUAD has so far raised £5.5 million to fund research and support services since the campaign launched in September 2017, and this is the first time an insurance provider has partnered with Alzheimer’s Society to broaden the fundraising initiative to include consumers. Thanks to pro bono work by Sputnik and development using CDL’s Strata APIs this is also the first time a personal lines broker has been able to use the platform to directly collect money for charities from customers during a quote journey. Atlanta, which owns Swinton Insurance, will further support Alzheimer’s Society with a programme of fundraising activities, education and awareness and plans to offer Dementia Friends information sessions to all 2,500 colleagues later this year. The business will also make a donation to Alzheimer’s Society from the Atlanta Community Fund.

NL Property & Sepsis Research FEAT

The founding directors of property, investment and development company NL Property are marking 30 years in business by attempting to raise £30,000 for the charity Sepsis Research FEAT. Guy Harman from Tunbridge Wells in Kent and Nigel Berney from Radlett in Hertfordshire are planning “a celebration with a difference” in aid of the charity. Between 16 and 30 June, they will each be undertaking a virtual cycle covering over 300 miles which they have dubbed their “300 for 30 challenge”. This is the distance from NL Property’s original offices in West Hampstead to the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute, the home of the GenOMICC study which Sepsis Research FEAT helps to fund.

ING & East London Business Alliance

ING is partnering with the East London Business Alliance (ELBA) to launch ELBA EDGE, a digital and social mobility skills programme for young people in the UK. Over the course of a year, the programme will provide participants training on digital skills and employability, as well as a paid employment placement within areas such as retail banking, insurance or professional services. Since the start of the pandemic, ING has raised and donated millions for short-term relief through initiatives in 25 countries, as well as €2 million for UNICEF’s global coronavirus appeal. The ELBA EDGE programme is part of ING’s global Covid-19 recovery response to help communitiesby supporting projects in areas such as financial health, sustainable employment and digital skills.

Spectrum Community Health CIC & Cancer Research UK

Spectrum Community Health CIC, one of the first health social enterprises to spin out of the NHS, has partnered with Cancer Research UK. As part of its Charity of the Year initiative, Spectrum’s Chief Executive, Dr Linda Harris OBE will be attempting to climb ‘10 Peaks in 10 Days’ starting on Friday 18 June. The challenge will see Dr Harris traverse ten of the highest peaks in the Lake District in a bid to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. The charity said in December 2020 that it would have to cut its research support by some £45m due to the massive loss in its own funding. As well as setting herself a £5,000 fundraising target, Dr Harris, alongside a number of supporters including staff, public health and NHS England colleagues, has opened the 10 peaks challenge to members of the public.

Nordoff Robbins & Pizza Express

As of 21 June, Nordoff Robbins has become Pizza Express‘s new UK charity partner. Along with fundraising initiatives from Pizza Express as part of the partnership, 25p of every Padana pizza sale will go directly to Nordoff Robbins. The partnership will help the charity provide more music therapy to vulnerable people across the UK and will also help wider communities.

Love Home Swap & Sea-Changers

Global home swapping platform Love Home Swap has partnered with the ocean conservation charity Sea-Changers.  To encourage holidaymakers to keep beaches clean on their summer adventures and stop crabs mistakenly swap their seashell homes for plastic, Love Home Swap has listed a number of crustacean cribs on its platform, alongside its other human homes, and is asking people to support the cause.

Meet Hamish the hermit crab from Scotland, for example, or Horace (pictured), sporting a sea-view holiday home in Jamaica. Not only does each hermit crab’s profile highlight the importance of reducing pollution and the danger that littering has on the environment, but there is also the option to donate to Sea-Changers via a JustGiving donation page. In addition, Love Home Swap is donating $2,000 to Sea-Changers.
