Myeloma UK bike ride raises £300,000

The Myeloma UK inaugural London to Paris bike ride has raised more than £300,000 for the charity.
Just 125 people raised the sum: a mixture of myeloma patients and their family and friends, doctors and nurses, and the pharmaceutical industry. Riders cycled 500km over four days from 5th – 8th May, supported by event ambassador, round the world cyclist and adventurer, Mark Beaumont.
The idea came from myeloma patient Bob Munro, from Windsor. Bob and 45 of his family and friends took part in the ride raising a collective total of almost £100,000. All the money raised will go towards supporting research into myeloma, which currently affects 17,500 people in the UK and has no cure.
The ride was sponsored by A.G. Barr, Gobstoppers, Hyundai, Tunnock’s, Barr Printers and Hype Branding, and supported by pharmaceutical and diagnostic partners Abingdon Health, Amgen, Celgene and Takeda.
Bob Munro said:

“This event is a challenge, and it makes you feel like you’ve done something amazing to earn your fundraising money. All of the riders and the people who sponsored them worked as a team to support Myeloma UK, and all of the money we’ve raised will go towards saving patients’ lives.”
