Barnardos Ireland’s income falls

Barnardos Ireland voluntary income fell from €6 .3 million in 2013 to just under €6 million in 2014, according the organisation’s latest accounts.
Trading income held steady at €1.2 million, although trading expenses increased from €934,000 to €982,000.
Barnardos’ main fundraising income is derived from committed and cash giving which in 2014 was €3.3 million, down from €3.4 million in 2013. Major donor income fell but corporate income was up at €1.5 million.
Trust income in 2013 was €1.2 million but was down to €750,000 in 2014. Barnardos has received significant funding from Atlantic Philanthropies over the years and, reflecting Atlantic’s reducing grant giving, the figure for 2014 was €280,000, down from €484,000.
Legacy income was €93,000 in 2014, from €130,000 the previous year.
Barnardos’ accounts give a breakdown of expenditure for each income category and shows that the charity spent €1.5 million on committed and cash giving and €687,000 on corporate and events. Total expenditure was €2.3 million, up from €1.9 million in 2013.
Total income for Barnardos, which includes grants from the government, was down from €22.7 million to €22 million.
