MBNA improves its WWF UK credit card offer to new customers

Howard Lake | 23 March 2014 | News

Charity credit card provider MBNA is extending the balance transfer offer on the WWF Credit Card for eligible new customers. From now on, eligible customers can benefit from zero per cent interest on balance transfers and money transfers for up to 24 months from the account opening date. Previously it was for 12 months.
MBNA introduced the WWF UK Credit Card in 1994 and the card has generated “millions of pounds” for the charity since then. In 2013, around 35,000 WWF cardholders helped raise more than £500,000 for WWF’s work. That works out at about £15 per cardholder.

How the card generates income for WWF UK

When someone opens a WWF Credit Card account and use their card within the first 90 days, MBNA will pay WWF  – at no cost to the individual – up to £40, plus £2 for every year a customer uses their card, and 40p for every £100 spent by customers on card purchases.
Michael Donald, Marketing and Commercial executive for MBNA, said that the partnership was one of the company’s longest standing affinity card relationships. The company was named charity credit card provider of the year in the Moneynet Personal Finance Awards 2014.
