ATOS 10th ANNIVERSARY EUROPEAN CYCLE FUNDRAISER CONTINUES TO BOOST CANCER CHARITIES

Howard Lake | 20 September 2013 | Newswire

London, 13 September, 2013 – Macmillan Cancer Support are set to be boosted by the efforts of members of the 65-strong Atos cycling enthusiasts who completed the tenth running of their annual  470 km  cycle between Paris and Eindhoven.

Known as the ‘City of Light Tour’, the event which started as a group of Atos employees and friends cycling between the company’s headquarters in the French capital and the Dutch city which shares the City of Light nickname, has raised in excess of 100,000 euros for cancer charities.

Cyclists from the UK, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Ireland and Germany participated in the event and this year London-based business technologists Justin Carpenter, Geraint Williams, Roger Tindale and Paul Reed represented the UK Atos team and joined former Tour de France winner Jan Janssen on the grueling two-day trip.

Justin Carpenter, Geraint Williams, Roger Tindale and Paul Reed were raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and through the UK team’s efforts they have raised £1900.

“The cycle tour was such an amazing experience. It was great to meet up with like-minded cycling enthusiasts from other parts of the global organisation and at the same time raise funds for such a worthy cause.” said Justin Carpenter

Macmillan’s area fundraising manager, Susan Selkirk, said: “Congratulations to the team for raising such a great amount for Macmillan.

“Macmillan believes that no one should face cancer alone and we rely on donations like this to ensure that nobody does. We simply couldn’t fund our much needed services to support people affected by cancer without this support so we are very grateful.”

The cyclists were welcomed in Eindhoven by the city’s Mayor Van Gijzel and Atos CEO for Benelux and the Nordics, Rob Pols.

Atos funds the organisational costs for the ‘City of Light Tour’ and supports the trip as part of the company’s drive to encourage teamwork, social responsibility and sportsmanship across its European operations.
