Commonwealth Games 2014 tickets to include opt-in donation to UNICEF

The Commonwealth Games 2014 will get underway in Glasgow one year from today. Sports fans will be able to support UNICEF, the official charity partner of the Games, when they apply to buy tickets.

The ticket application process will invite people to include a donation of £1, £3 or £5 to UNICEF. The money raised will help fund improving the lives of babies and children in Scotland and in Commonwealth countries across the world.

The partnership between UNICEF, Glasgow 2014 and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is the first of its kind in the history of the Commonwealth Games. It aims to reach every child in Scotland and children in every Commonwealth country.

Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive, David Grevemberg, said: "Having this opt-in donation available within our ticket programme is a really simple but tangible way that every sports fans who is part of the excitement of the Games can also do their bit to help transform the lives of children. Almost 50 per cent of the Commonwealth are under the age of 25 and investing in the future of this new generation has the potential for positive impact long after Glasgow 2014.”

Up to one million tickets for the Games will be on sale from 19 August 2013. Applicants will be asked to opt-in to make a donation during the ticketing process and donations will not be taken until ticket allocations are confirmed.

Tickets for all sports will start at £15, and two thirds of all tickets will be on sale for £25 or less. There will be half-price tickets for under-16s and over-60s.

The opt-in donation scheme is the first in a series of fundraising activities that will take place as part of the partnership.
