The Irish Charity Tax Reform Group is reminding people that the deadline for consultation on the Charities Act is 20th March.

As part of the consultation the Department of Justice & Equality held a meeting at its offices in Dublin on 15 March which was addressed by the current Chief Executive of the Charity Commission in Northern Ireland.

The Department is accepting consultation online via its website. The online consultation is in the form of answering questions in three key areas:

The setting up of a Charities Regulatory Authority has been proposed due to budgetary constraints while the establishment of a register of charities has raised issues about how it is likely to be used, what additional information might be included and the fee structure for charities.

The consultation on financial and activity reporting by registered charities to the Charities Regulatory Authority is seeking views on the proposed thresholds for different levels of reporting and independent scrutiny and also on what additional financial information should be required from charities.
