The Osmonds set up fund for children with hearing loss
The Osmond family have established a UK charity that will help deaf and hard of hearing children. The Hearing Fund UK has been launched to raise money for children living with hearing loss, and their families, all around the UK.
Merrill Osmond, lead singer of the Osmond’s, along with his son, Justin, hope that UK fans will support the charity.
Merrill Osmond said that he wanted to see realised the dream of his late mother, Olive Osmond, of helping deaf children around the world come to fruition in the UK.
“People don’t always realise that it was because of my two deaf brothers, Virl and Tom, that the whole Osmond thing started” he explained. “My mother and father formed the group so they could afford to buy hearing aids for them. My own son, Justin, is 90 per cent deaf as well, and that’s why this new Fund is so important to me and my family.”
Justin Osmond has already set up the Olive Osmond Hearing Fund in the USA in honour of his grandmother.
The Hearing Fund UK, established under the Charities Aid Foundation, will choose a registered charity to be the beneficiary of its funds. The first charity partner is The Elizabeth Foundation, a national charity supporting infants and preschool children with hearing loss, and their families.
Merrill is returning to the UK in September to take part in a special fundraising Gala in Leeds, along with the Fund’s two new celebrity friends – Loose Women‘s Jane McDonald and Strictly Come Dancing‘s Craig Revel Horwood.
