Philanthropist makes $200,000 donation to University of Ulster

Howard Lake | 1 February 2012 | News

A former Coca Cola executive from Northern Ireland has donated $200,000 to the University of Ulster.
Dr Neville Isdell, a Downpatrick-born businessman who retired as Chairman and Chief Executive of Coca Cola Worldwide in 2008, made the donation in support of the John Hume and Tip O’Neill Chair in Peace. He said he was motivated to make the donation out of admiration for John Hume’s anti-sectarian work and the support given by former speaker of the US Congress, Tip O’Neill, to the peace process. Mr O’Neill died in 1994.
Since retiring from his role at Coca Cola Dr Isdell has dedicated himself to philanthropy, particularly in Africa.
The fundraising campaign for the Chair in Peace recently received another boost following a £1 million challenge grant from the International Fund for Ireland (IFI). The University of Ulster will receive the IFI grant if they raise a matching £1 million by 2013.
