Steven Gerrard Foundation opens to first grant applications

Howard Lake | 25 January 2012 | News

The Steven Gerrard Foundation, launched by the England and Liverpool football player at the start of 2011, has issued its first call for grant applications from projects that have a long-term impact on disadvantaged children. These can include those affected by illness, family breakdown, disability, involvement in the streets, or educational disadvantage.
The Foundation is supported by the Consortium for Street Children (CSC), which is helping to ensure the Foundation and the funds it raises are managed and used effectively.
Gerrard set up the Foundation having seen first-hand the challenges faced by many children in his hometown of Liverpool. Steven will be actively involved through playing a role on the grants evaluation board, personal financial investment and visiting many of the supported projects.
It will focus mainly on projects in the UK and in Liverpool in particular but will occasionally assist children internationally as well.

Applicants can apply for grants of up to £10,000 per year for a maximum of three years. Once applications have been submitted, organisations will be informed within six weeks of the closing date of that application window whether they have been shortlisted or not. A final decision will be made five weeks after shortlisting.
The closing date for this first round of applications is 5pm, 9 March 2012.
