DSC publishes its first guide to new grantmaking trusts

The Directory of Social Change is expanding its range of guides and directories for trust fundraisers with a new title, The Guide to New Trusts. It features 100 grant-making trusts and foundations which were almost all registered in 2010, none of which “have appeared in print in any of our publications before”.
The trusts have been established by companies, families and individuals. Some of the more well-known names behind these new trusts include entrepreneur James Caan of the Dragons’ Den, Chelsea FC footballer Salomon Kalou, and former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf. Another trust has been set up by a National Lottery winner.
As with other DSC trust directories, The Guide to New Trusts includes grantmakers’ beneficial areas, contact details and preferred method of application, trustees’ names, funding areas considered and exclusions where known, and other information available on grant-making policies and practices.
Editor Tom Traynor acknowledges that “many of these funders don’t yet have any formal published guidelines for potential applicants or an established application process – they appear to be adopting a ‘suck it and see’ approach where they respond to applications they receive and develop their strategy and policies accordingly”. As a result the directory includes advice on how to research and approach these trusts.
The Guide to New Trusts joins other established titles for trust fundraisers from DSC including The Directory of Grant-Making Trusts, Trust Fundraising, Guide to the Major Trusts part 1 and Guide to the Major Trusts part 2.
The 32-page The Guide to New Trusts costs £24.95 from the Directory of Social Change, and it can also be ordered from Amazon.co.uk.
