Atlantic giving to Queens passes $65 million

Howard Lake | 30 March 2011 | News

Two recent grants from Atlantic Philanthropies to Queens University in Belfast brings the total awarded to the institution in the last ten years to $65.7 million. The recent grants totalling nearly $500,000 are to support the ongoing research into shared education among Catholic and Protestant schools and to increase advocacy efforts on the benefits of Shared Education.
The largest grant to Queens was $15.5 million for a Learning Resource Centre but in recent years most grants have been for revenue projects rather than capital.
Other recent grants in Ireland includes $931,000 for Carers NI to improve the support for the over 150,000 carers of older people and older carers in Northern Ireland. In the Republic of Ireland a grant of $300,000 was made to Social Research Evaluation Services to evaluate the Ageing Programme.
The Atlantic Philanthropies have made grants totaling more than $5 billion as of December 2009.
