Age UK announces Bobble Day for 11 February

Howard Lake | 23 January 2011 | News

Age UK is calling on people across the UK to buy and wear a bright orange furry bobble on Friday 11 February to help support its Spread the Warmth campaign.
The charity’s first Bobble Day is designed to mark and respond to the fact that “during the winter over 250 older people die needlessly every day in the UK as as a result of the cold.” All funds raised by the event will support the Spread the Warmth campaign to help the charity’s work with over 350,000 older people.
The limited edition fluffy bobble is available for a suggested donation of £1 from Age UK shops. If they run out, then supporters can make their own bobble using Age UK’s instructions, or wear something orange on the day and make a donation to the charity.
Paul Farthing, Fundraising Director at Age UK, said: “In this day and age in the UK it is unacceptable that 250 people in later life die needlessly each day in winter because of the cold – but with your help we can work to change this”.
