On Sunday June 14th Hilton hotels throughout the UK and Ireland will be inviting members of their local communities to travel “Around the World in a Day” as part of Hilton in the Community Foundation’s national charity event, sponsored by Precor fitness equipment.

Around the World in a Day participants will collectively aim to travel the circumference of the earth – 24,901.55 miles – by taking part in one of two events: the competitive Team Challenge or the more relaxed Miles4fun, designed for families.

Hilton team members, charity partners and the public will work together in over 70 hotels and offices all over the country to cover as many sponsored miles as possible. All proceeds raised in each area will go to a local charity or good cause of the hotel’s choice, representing an amazing chance to make a difference in the community.

Around the World in a Day is being supported this year by Gladiators from Sky One’s news series. Enigma, Doom, Siren, Amazon and Warrior attended the event’s launch and a Gladiator team will be competing in the Team Challenge at one of the Hilton hotels this summer. Participants around the country can then pit their times against those of the muscle-bound stars throughout the day via a live internet link-up.

Siren, aka Amy Guy, a former Miss Wales and an Olympic hopeful for London 2012 in the Modern pentathlon, said:
“It’s great to be part of Around the World in a Day. This is a fantastic chance for people to challenge themselves, to get active and to support young people in need around the country.”

According to Simon Vincent, Chairman of the Foundation’s Trustees and Hilton Europe President, this year’s event is a wonderful opportunity for people to get together and to have fun in support of some great causes. He urges the nation to lace up their trainers and run, cycle or walk all in the name of charity.

“It doesn’t matter what age you are, your fitness level or how you want to cover your miles, every bit of effort helps! To get involved all you have to do is register in advance and join us at your local hotel on June 14th for a fantastic day of summer fun and fitness.”

Miles4fun is two-hour event where anyone of any age can try and complete a chosen one mile route as many times as they wish. Team Challenge is a national competition with teams of four trying to complete as many miles as possible on cardiovascular equipment over a seven hour period. Some hotels will also be choosing which countries they want to complete their miles in, so will have lots of themed fun on offer for participants.

This is the third year that Around the World in a Day has been running. In 2007 participants completed 18,449.31 miles and in 2008 26,000 miles were covered; this year’s event is aiming to go even further and hopes to raise a record £80,000 for charity!

Registration packs, including an event t-shirt, cost just £5. To register or to find out more information please call 020 7605 7641 or log onto www.hilton-foundation.org.uk
