The Sports Council for Wales together with voluntary action support charity Mantell Gwynedd have established a pilot grant fund worth £15,000 for non-sporting voluntary and community groups to get active.
The ‘Go For It’ fund is designed to support new sporting and keep fit activities up to a maximum of £1,000 for groups such as the Young Farmers, Urdd, W.I., Merched y Wawr and village halls committees.
Bethan Russell-Owen, Chief Officer, Mantell Gwynedd said: “I see this as an exciting project for non-sporting organisations to start up a new activity. We’re all interested, these days, in improving our health and I’m sure that organisations like the W.I., village halls committees and Young Farmers will find this a great opportunity to include a new and interesting activity into their yearly programme”.
Sports Council for Wales Council Member, Hywel Meredydd said:
“Through this invaluable partnership with Mantell Gwynedd, the Sports Council for Wales is delighted to be able to reach a huge number of community groups otherwise out of our grasp. This is an excellent opportunity for the people of Gwynedd to get active in an informal, sociable environment as part of their community activities, towards a healthier lifestyle.”
The ‘Go For it’ partnership has so far awarded £7,740 worth of funding to projects across Wales.
