Ammado launches online micro-donations service

Ammado, the online social network for “nonprofits, socially responsible companies and engaged individuals”, has launched a micro-donation service.

The minimum donation is €4 or its equivalent in any of 33 other currencies. Donors can divide their donation between more than one organisation listed on ammado, benefiting multiple organisations simultaneously.

Ammado is used by nonprofits including charities, sports clubs and alumni networks so any of these can receive micro donations online.

Ammado members can also set up regular donations, and even change the recipients or amount every month if they wish.

There is no sign up or monthly subscription
cost for nonprofits to use the Ammado donation service. The company does of course charge a fee to cover credit card, banking, payment gateway and other charges. This is a flat fee of 5%
plus applicable taxes from each donation. However, Ammado states that it “does not profit from the fees it charges”.

All transactions are handled securely by Bibit Global Payments Services, part of the Royal Bank of Scotland group.

Donations are displayed on the individual’s ammado profile page so donors can keep track of their giving.

Donors can also help promote their chosen nonprofits on external sites: for example, ammado offers a bebo widget to enable members to display their Giving Circle on their profile. It will also be offering a donations widget to add to charities’ websites.

Non-members of Ammado can donate online via the site too. They can use it to make one-off donations whenever they wish.

Ammado says that it is now offering a full service: users can research a particular charity sector such as health, interact directly with an organisation, decide whom to support, donate via Giving Circle, and stay up to date with the work of that organisation, all within Ammado.

Ammado has now extended Giving Circle with an “Employee Motivation scheme“, enabling companies to set up a simple employee giving scheme via the site.
