JJB Sports on Newcastle Shopping Park paid a visit to the local fire station in Byker this week to donate a signed Newcastle United shirt, which will be used to raise funds for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.

Established 60 years ago, the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund provides support and assistance to serving and retired fire service personnel and their dependants. The charity has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of the UK Fire and Rescue services, providing sheltered accommodation, recuperation, rehabilitation and therapy in addition to financial support for those in need.

The signed shirt will be auctioned off at Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service’s Summer Ball on May 2nd at St. James Park, to help contribute to the £9 million per year needed to maintain the charity’s services.

Andy Clough, manager at the JJB Store commented, "I am really pleased to be able to donate the signed shirt, on behalf of JJB Sports, for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund. We wanted to recognise the great work they do and give something back to those that risk their lives on a daily basis."

Newcastle East Community Fire Station manager at Byker, Bill Foster explained, “The charity provides such an important service to over 11,000 people every year; it is great to receive the signed Newcastle shirt from JJB Sports, which will help raise funds to continue the charity’s valuable work.”
