SITA Trust offers £250,000 to three organisations

SITA Trust, a major funder of projects within the Landfill Communities Fund, is offering a one-off grant of £250,000 to three individual projects, in three different categories.

These are Heritage (historic buildings, churches, castles etc), Community (playgrounds, museums, parks etc) and Sport (hockey, cricket, football clubs etc).

Community Challenge Fund

The funding stream is called the “Community Challenge Fund” and is part of SITA Trust’s ‘Enhancing Communities’ programme.

The Trust has given examples of the sort of community projects that could be funded:

• A zoo, that wants to build a new, state of the art aquarium

• A history museum that wants to extend its building to provide a cyber café and information centre

• A science museum that wants to build a state of the art, digital planetarium

• A city farm that wants to build a new barn to encourage more visitors throughout the year, whatever the weather

• A regional park that wants to build an adventure playground near to its visitor centre

The application deadline is 27 September 2007.

SITA Trust provides funding for community improvement projects within 10 miles of an active SITA UK landfill site and environmental projects within ten miles of any active landfill site. Since 1997 the Trust has allocated over £55 million to more than 1,450 projects across the UK.
