Munro Challenge 2007 raises over £250,000 for WaterAid
This year’s Munro Challenge on 9 June saw 519 teams taking part, attempting to reach over 260 ‘Munros’ or Scottish peaks over 3,000 ft on the same day. Since it was launched the biennial event has to date brought in £1,250,000.
Josephine McLaughlin, Project Manager for WaterAid’s Munro Challenge, said: “We are so thrilled at the incredible amount raised by this year’s Munro Challenge. The teams put in such an immense effort. The funds raised are enough to help WaterAid bring the essentials for a healthy life – safe water, sanitation and hygiene education – to over 16,500 of the world’s poorest people.”
One of Scotland’s most beautiful yet challenging mountains, Sgurr Fiona [An Teallach], was conquered by a team of five from Warwickshire. Team leader, Peter Sugden and his team climbed some particularly challenging, pinnacled ridges along the way to the 1060m high summit.
