New accountability principles established for cross-border giving

The US Council on Foundations and European Foundation Centre have published “the Principles of Accountability for International Philanthropy” to help grantmakers making international grants achieve good practice in accountability with regards to mission, grant recipients, partners and beneficiaries.

The report is the result of a two-year collaboration with grantmaking bodies, philanthropic networks and experts. The Principles “grew from the understanding that cross-border philanthropy can be more challenging and complex than domestic grantmaking because of differences in culture and language as well as legal and accounting systems.”
