Biffaward, the organisation which distributes landfill tax funding to environmental and community projects across the UK, has widened its eligibility criteria for its biodiversity and Flagship funding. Proposed project sites for biodiversity projects can now be within 25 miles of a Biffa operation, up from 10 miles.

Biffaward’s funding guidelines are listed on its newly redesigned website, together with an invitation for new applications. A postcode search tool makes it easy to discover if a project is eligible in terms of distance from a Biffa operation.

The website offers guideance on Biffaward’s funding programmes, eligibility and how to apply. It has been redesigned following users’ feedback and aims to avoid jargon.

Biffaward’s Assistant Fund Manager, Gillian French, said: “Having an idea for a project is often just the start of a long journey and, for small organisations especially, fundraising can be the hardest part. The new site will be a valuable tool for people looking for funding, and is part of ongoing work to make funding more accessible.”

Martin Bettington, Chairman of Biffaward, said: “We hope that the new site will encourage more applications, particularly from cultural venues and organisations planning projects to increase biodiversity, such as safeguarding wildlife habitats.”

Biffaward has made grants of over £80 million to hundreds of communities and wildlife habitats since 1997.
