ROCK AND POP PUPILS CELEBRATE CHARITY CONCERT SUCCESS
14/02/07
Pupils from The School of Rock and Pop in Darlington have raised more than £900 for St Teresa’s Hospice, following a special fundraising concert at Carmel School.
Earlier this month, six local bands, including, Dial 9 For Juice, Default Selection and The Undecideds, took to the stage at the Headlands-based school, performing live for visitors and guests.
Money raised from ticket sales and a special fundraising raffle held during the event, totalled more than £900, which will now be used to help fund St Teresa’s palliative and respite care services, which include day care, at-home care, counselling and complementary therapies as well as an in-patient unit.
The school of Rock and Pop, based at Darlington College, is run by Andrew Meadowcroft and Keith Peberdy, who has worked with Sting, the Rolling Stones, Travis and Robbie Williams. The course involves forming a band, a practical music theory exam, and information on how to get ahead in the music business.
Andrew Meadowcroft, a tutor at The School of Rock and Pop, said: Pupils at the School of Rock and Pop thrive on performing live and having an audience appreciate their music has an extremely positive effect on individual confidence and musical progression. Being able to support a local charity at these concerts makes it all the more special and definitely gives them an additional boost.”
St Teresa’s Hospice Director, Jane Bradshaw, said: The concert by the School of Rock and Pop was a resounding success and not only brought much needed donations to the hospice, but also gave these young musicians a chance to showcase their talents. Everyone who attended seemed to have a very enjoyable time and I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and generosity.”
