British Red Cross hires agency for extra support for emergency appeals

The British Red Cross has appointed multi-channel communication specialist Broadsystem to manage overflow calls generated by its emergency appeals.

Although no direct response television activity is planned, Broadsystem will be on standby to handle any overflow calls if a disaster occurs and an appeal is aired. This overflow mechanism will be activated by the British Red Cross if necessary.

The additional service, which goes live this week, will supplement the customer management service provided by the charity’s lead agency, 2Touch. As part of the project Broadsystem will record, transcribe and transmit donations to the British Red Cross.

Sarah Riley, Outsource Agency Co-ordinator at the British Red Cross, said: “Broadsystem… were on hand throughout numerous disaster appeals last year and have shown a positive attitude in working alongside our lead agency, so were the natural choice to provide overflow facilities in the future should we need them.”

Broadsystem, a wholly owned subsidiary of News International, has other charity sector clients including Asthma UK, Dogs Trust, Blue Cross, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Royal British Legion, Cancer Research and National Autistic Society.
